The Army-Navy Medical Service Corps Act, passed by the eightieth U.S. Congress on 4 August 1947, established a framework to ensure the availability of critical wartime medical specialties for naval Forces. Today, the Medical Service Corps consists of over 3,000 Active and Reserve officers across 31 specialties, fulfilling administrative, clinical, and scientific roles essential to Navy Medicine. These officers provide vital support to Navy and Marine Corps commands, including squadrons, battalions, and units, and are deployed in various operations, from combat to disaster relief and humanitarian missions. Their work ensures the provision of the highest standard of care both ashore and afloat.
