History of the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76)
USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76), a Nimitz-class nuclear-powered supercarrier, was commissioned on July 12, 2003. Named in honor of the 40th President of the United States, Ronald Reagan, the ship was constructed at Newport News Shipbuilding in Virginia. Between 2006 and 2011, Ronald Reagan undertook five deployments to the Pacific and Middle East from its base at Naval Air Station North Island. In October 2015, she became the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 5, stationed at Yokosuka, Japan, as part of the United States Seventh Fleet, replacing USS George Washington. Since 2016, Ronald Reagan has conducted annual summer patrols in the Western Pacific within the Seventh Fleet's area of operation.
