NCR-30 History
The 30th Naval Construction Regiment (30NCR) has played a significant role in U.S. military engineering and construction efforts from its establishment in 1944 on Saipan, through various critical operations during World War II, the Vietnam War, operations in Southwest Asia, and recent humanitarian efforts. Initially focused on airfield construction in the Pacific, the 30NCR has evolved over the decades to oversee major construction projects and provide operational control over Seabee units in various theaters of operation. Post-World War II, the 30NCR was reactivated in Guam and later moved to Cubi Point, Luzon, to direct the construction of the U.S. Naval Air Station Cubi Point. Throughout the Vietnam War, the 30NCR was instrumental in assigning and monitoring construction projects to Seabee units, later expanding its operational area to the Western Pacific. In the 1990s and 2000s, the 30NCR contributed significantly to operations in Somalia, the Pacific, and Southwest Asia, supporting U.S. military efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan. It played a key role in infrastructure development, quality of life improvements, and force protection enhancements in conflict zones. The regiment merged with the 31st Seabee Readiness Group in 2013 to form Naval Construction Group 1, enhancing its command and control capabilities. Its participation in Pacific Partnership 2015 and Exercise Foal Eagle further demonstrated its commitment to humanitarian aid and international cooperation. In 2016, 30NCR and NCG 1 separated to clarify their distinct administrative and operational roles. Recognized for its contributions with a Meritorious Unit Commendation, the 30NCR relocated to Guam in 2018 to better oversee deployed units. Its swift response to Super Typhoons Mangkhut and Yutu exemplified its readiness to support disaster relief efforts. Today, stationed in Guam, the 30NCR embodies the enduring "Can Do" spirit of the Seabees, continuing to serve as the military's preferred engineering force.
