The training for Utilitiesmen takes place over approximately 13 weeks at a class "A" school located at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. Enlistees in the UT rating are required to commit to at least five years of service. In their roles, Utilitiesmen are responsible for planning and supervising tasks according to specifications, ensuring operational systems' efficiency, and maintaining combat readiness. They also focus on minimizing environmental pollution's adverse effects.
