Naval Construction Group Two (NCG-2) History

The Naval Construction Regiment (NCR) 22, established on January 15, 1944, contributed significantly to WWII efforts by constructing essential infrastructure in the Pacific, including airfields and roads. After deactivation in 1946, it was reactivated in 1992, playing pivotal roles in disaster relief, notably after Hurricane Andrew in 1992 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and supporting military operations in Guantanamo Bay, Honduras, Albania, Afghanistan, and Iraq. As part of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, NCR-22 cleared routes, constructed facilities, and trained local personnel in construction skills. It transformed into Naval Construction Group 2 (NCG 2) in May 2013, continuing its mission to provide ready engineering support to military operations. NCR-22's deployment to Morocco in 2017 for Exercise African Lion highlights its ongoing commitment to international collaboration and readiness for a range of military and humanitarian missions.
